JOB DESCRIPTION – CLASSROOM TEACHER (GERMAN) FULL TIME, EXEMPT, 10 ½ MONTHS REPORTS TO PRINCIPAL 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR

Overview

Goethe International Charter School (GICS) is an independent charter school currently serving grades TK-8 based on the International Baccalaureate Primary Years, International Baccalaureate Middle Years, and a dual language immersion program (German/English), preparing its students for life in a global society. We are serving over 400 students in a happy, healthy, small yet academically rigorous learning environment. Our students are proud to perform on a high academic level and our team has been honored with multiple awards over the years.

For the 2023-2024 school year, we continue to co-locate with the Marina del Rey Middle School in Del Rey. GICS strives to establish itself as the most internationally minded school choice in Los Angeles for a continued K-8 education following the International Baccalaureate Primary and Middle Years programs. Our team currently consists of 38 members of faculty and staff, led by the Executive Director.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Implement GICS educational model.
  • Implement CA State Common Core Standards.
  • Coordinate and plan instruction with grade-level teams.
  • Analyze student data to inform instruction.
  • Work collaboratively with the Principal, Assistant Principal, Coordinators, and staff.
  • Communicate with families about academic and behavioral progress.
  • Participate in all school-funded professional development.
  • Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the GICS Employee Handbook.

Requirements

  • Fluent in German
  • A German 2nd State Examination and 3 years of teaching experience OR
  • A bachelor’s degree
  • A California multiple-subject teaching credential
  • CLAD or BCLAD certificates
  • Hold “highly qualified” NCLB status or evidence of achievement
  • Demonstrate subject competency through appropriate examination or coursework
  • A commitment to team-teaching in a German language immersion or German language acquisition program
  • A commitment to training in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme
  • DOJ Clearance from FBI/DOJ
  • TB Clearance
