Aimed at those who have a foot in both the U.S. and Germany or plan to do so, the series is designed to provide invaluable guidance on business-related planning topics including income, estate and gift taxes; immigration and establishing residency; Social Security; health insurance; retirement considerations and more.\u00a0 Some issues will be split into sessions examining them from outbound (U.S. to Germany) and inbound (Germany to the U.S.) perspectives, with plans to host one to two events per month.<\/p>\n<p>At the first live virtual event, 160 attendees heard from legal experts Alan Winston Granwell, Of Counsel at Holland &amp; Knight LLP in Washington DC, and Gerd Kostrzewa, Partner at Heuking Kuhn Luer Wojtekc in D\u00fcsseldorf and Zurich, on a panel moderated by Jim Jiao, Vice Chair and San Diego Regional Chair for GABA Southern California. With an outbound focus, guests reported learning even far beyond what they had hoped about U.S.\/German tax treaties, tax rules and effects when relocating to Germany, estate planning consequences and more. This first session helped educate attendees as to what to expect before making the jump, empowering them to be prepared rather than encounter unpleasant tax surprises.<\/p>\n<p>Plans for upcoming sessions include topics like healthcare, immigration, real estate investments and cross-border workplaces.
